27 December 2008

Today was another awesome day. The wind was still and it wasn't too hot - just right. We went to the beach at about 09h00, the kids enjoyed it so much! After beach we went to a nearby Spur and had lunch with Liezel. We really enjoyed it, we were there from about 12h30, to 15h30. When we left there, we went sightseeing a bit, almost made Camp's Bay but the traffic was so bad that we decided to turn around. Here are some photos of the day:

This was an interesting sight - a kitty cat walking on the beach with her owners! I have never seen this before!

We checked out of the hotel today. Our new address until Wednesday morning, is Dolphin Beach (Bloubergstrand). When Jaclynn saw the place, she got really excited. This would be our 4th year in a row staying at the Dolphin Beach resort. There is a Protea hotel, but we stay in the apartments next to the hotel. It is really lovely and excellent value for money. It is about a minute walk from the beach, no roads to cross, undercover parking, close to malls and shops and take-away places - anyone's dream holiday place.

We unpacked and later the afternoon tried to go to the beach, but the wind was terrible. Kayli could not stay upright. We decided to give up on the beach and go for a short drive. Thereafter we relaxed a bit and had braaivleis for dinner.

Christmas Day was perfect! The sun was shining, the wind was still, we could just feel the vibe in the air. We got up a bit late (again), so we decided not to go downstairs for breakfast, but rather order room service. What a surprise when at first no one answered the phone, and then when we finally got through, we were told they were too busy for room service. So Jacques had to make a quick trip to the MacDonalds.

We then took a drive around and saw this awesome view:

After our drive, it was time for our Christmas lunch at the hotel. The food was awesome! We really enjoyed lunch, and after lunch Jacques and I took turns to take a nice long afternoon nap. When we finally got up at about 18h00, we saw that the weather was awesome and we had to go to the beach. Jaclynn was ecstatic!

The beach was packed with people just taking a stroll, or playing games, swimming, etc.

Look at this interesting man:

Jaclynn really enjoyed running around and playing in the water:

Kayli still did not like the feel of the sand on her hands:

The mountains. On the left where all the people are standing, was a tidal pool, where a few smallish sharks got stuck. People where trying to rescue them and everyone was interested:

A perfect ending to a perfect day:

24 December 2008

Our day started quite late, both the kids were so tired that they only woke up at about 08h30 (yay for us!). We went downstairs for a nice breakfast, and then drove around the Strand/Gordon's Bay area a bit. We went to the beach for about ten minutes but the wind was really bad so we retreated to the car.

Look at these huge waves:

We then went to the Somerset Mall, to buy a few things. The mall was extremely busy (duh, it was the day before Christmas so what did we expect but we had to get these items). We then had a small lunch at the Panarottis. After lunch, we walked back through the mall towards the entrance where we parked, and we stumbled across a Kurt Darren show. The kids thought this was really awesome and both were dancing on the beat of "Loslappie". We only stayed for that song and then left.

It was late afternoon already when we got back to the hotel. Not much later, the day bid us farewell with such a beautiful sunset:

We landed in Cape Town sometime between 10 and 11 on Tuesday morning. The flight was not too bad, Jaclynn had a little bit of earache but it was manageable. The poor little baby behind us though screamed for about 15 minutes non-stop. The guy sitting in front of us commented the whole time on kids on flights and kids not behaving, aaargh at one stage this really was getting on my nerves.

We had a bit of a struggle with the car rental company, who never told us that they are going to block R13 000 on our credit card (the total of the rental plus excess should something happen to the car). Then the car seat they gave for Kayli did not fit and somehow got tangled with the seatbelt and no-one could untangle it. So then we got another (bigger) car and we managed to sort out the carseats and start our holiday.

Jaclynn was really excited when she saw the ocean! We checked into the Ocean View hotel in Strand, and then went for lunch at the Spur. It was quite chilly outside, as it has been raining earlier the day.
